How to play Roulette

About Roulette

Speak to anyone about casinos and, more often than not, a Roulette wheel is the first image that comes to mind. Roulette is one of the oldest and best known casino games going.

Roulette is French for “little wheel” and has been played, in its present form, since as far back as 1796.

After gambling was outlawed in Europe in the 1860’s, the game went on to be played in the safe haven of Monte Carlo, where the last remaining legal casino in Europe was located. As its popularity soared, it was then exported around the world. Today Roulette is considered by many to be the, “King of Casino Games”.

Play Online Roulette

With European Roulette the croupier spins the Roulette wheel in one direction at the same time as releasing a ball into it, in the opposite direction. As the ball loses momentum it falls into one of 37 numbered black and red slots in the wheel. Roulette rules are very straightforward. Players must bet on where the ball will land, what number it will be or whether it will be red or black slot.

We offer two different ways to play Roulette online:

  • Live Roulette – played in real time from the casino, the Croupier drops the ball into the spinning Roulette Wheel as players place their bets on where it will eventually land.
  • Auto Roulette - the winning number is determined by a Random Number Generator.

Roulette: Rules

Roulette is played against the House. The House is represented by the Croupier, who handles the bets placed, the payouts, and spins the Roulette Wheel.

To play Roulette, simply place your bet(s) on numbers on the table layout. The Croupier spins the wheel and launches the ball.

A short time after the ball has been launched, the ‘No More Bets’ call will be made. After this point you will no longer be allowed to place any more bets or change any of your existing bets.

The Croupier will place a marker on the table over the winning bet, and the losing bets will then be cleared away. If you were lucky enough to win, you will see your chips increase depending on how much you wagered and the odds of your bet.

The Payouts

  • A bet on one number only (Straight-Up) pays 35 to 1.
  • A two-number bet (Split) pays 17 to 1.
  • A three-number bet (Street) pays 11 to 1.
  • A four-number bet (Corner) pays 8 to 1.
  • A six-number bet (Line) pays 5 to 1.
  • A bet on the outside Dozen or Column pays 2 to 1.
  • A bet on Red/Black, Odds/Even, or Low/High pays 1 to 1.

Roulette: Strategy

To win at Roulette the player needs to predict where the ball will land after each spin. Luck plays a huge part in the game.

Different players choose different strategies. Some go with winning numbers in the hope that they are more likely to come up. Others look at numbers that have not come up for a while and believe they are due to be lucky soon. There is also the option of betting on many numbers thereby increasing your chances of winning, however spreading your bets in this way results in a lesser pay out. Ultimately, how you play is entirely up to you.
